never have i been more thankful i finally Got Good this past year at triaging/delegating/project management

because wow i would have crashed out in a bad way this past week between a perfect storm of work/[redacted, related to itch]/itch damage control triaging/[redacted, unrelated to itch]/being stupid about sleep management, had i been fumbling along with the previous lack of discipline lol.

(comments disabled for bandwidth, nothing personal, focusing on pure mission critical stuff. same thing as why all of my non-art posts on bsky have comments disabled.)

brainthought: i feel like we are rapidly seeing a winners/losers separation due to ai of an inherent advantage that curious/persistent+resource/education gifted people have and will have as far as navigating ai-assisted roadblocks. knowing how to get a resume shoved through corporate robot filters by knowing humans on the inside, finding and hunting resources on obscure websites, asking real people questions instead of chatgpt, taking the time to learn real skills and being the top 10% knowledge experts instead of offloading it.

counterthought: (hasn't that winners/losers separation always existed, just the medium of friction has changed? for a while it was simply being *online* that separated this knowlage-class. and that was more strictly a money and education separation of who could afford a computer and internet.)

side-thought: (are you just framing this because that curiosity advantage is advantageous for you? or is that one pro-ai blog poster who made a surprisingly compelling argument for it in a ruthless silicon-valley sense more right in a technical sense (not in an ethical sense), when he mentioned how it'll enhance the entrepreneurs who need to learn Just Enough of many skills to duct tape a startup together?)

counterthought: it [the friction existing] shouldn't be like this though.

counter-counter thought: and it will always, unfortunately, still exist to some degree. so too - is the necessity to always push back on it.

Clair Obscur got me to hit the keys again lol. it's been a while!

my piano background )

anyway, Clair Obscur has a lot of piano-centric tracks and i was like hell yeah, if they were designed for piano and sound not-too-bad surely that's doable right

(i say with the tone of a middle-aged guy who played football in high school like "YEAH I STILL GOT IT" 0.8 seconds before i have a heart attack from doing yard work too hard)

ANYWAY. pieces i've been piddling with:

nattering on about the pieces i've been playing )

anyway i've been wondering if i should get a one-off lesson with a piano teacher or something? the problem is i know that's not a market piano teachers really want to be in, right, like "hi i'm an annoying amateur who wants to show up a couple times, play the repertoire i want to play, and you give me some hot tips before i disappear again" is... not as appealing as a regularly-recurring student lol. but it's been so long since i had any formal instruction, and the formal instruction i had back in the day was... pretty mongrel-ish:

piano pedagogy )

anyway whatever. i'm having fun! that's the main thing! but i also like hearing myself talk, hence this post LOL happy tuesday

okay, fire emblem tellius zihark characterization essay that's been cooking for years, aka this one:

#one of these days i may or may not write that giant meta essay in my brain about how [zihark would] have a very complex/messy relationship with-- masculinity in general (this is purely Vibes. all vibes) given what i headcanon part of his past to be and anyway. #i can see things getting easier in some ways and not in others when he gets older. why am i saying this lol. enjoy?

cracks knuckles. )

Art is for opening little portholes to a subject we’re all familiar with in some way and saying “let me teach you how I see this thing, let me show you how to get emotional about it the way I get emotional about it” ‪@coelasquid.bsky.social‬

i know it's ultra cringe to say this but i honestly have so much more sympathy for why managers are Like That sometimes after being in the same position for a while now :v

gently poking $pisces_art director_underling like 'hey, you good for the upcoming meeting, man....'
love the dude but omfg i do need to know if you're set!!!! don't give me crickets!

anyway, also a little funny when my former intern was safely ranting to me about our VP giving him useless powerpoints/decks to design and i had to explain like. yeah, it's useless shit *to us*, we're not the audience for those specifically, but those funny graphs and shit are a critical part of upper management politicking and leverage. leadership is the audience. make your boss look good, you get paid good (or at all).

ah man this reminded me one time years and years ago when i was surprised in one of the big town hall meetings that the no3 (design-esque) chief of staff) didn't have anything to show (and commented it to my immediate team). and then. two weeks later, he was fired lol. it's stuff like that.
